Todd Rafferty's Gravatar I have one, but I don't think it's case-study worthy. We have a hospital organization that has been a long time client of ours. When we first built their website, it was back in 2000ish with CF4/5. When we completed it, I was just never really happy with how the flow of the applications were.

Just recently we re-did their entire CMS with a brand new admin using CF8, the new ajax tags and even tossed in a google appliance box for good measure. The AJAX tags made a huge difference in the internal admin. I couldn't figure out where I wanted these things to belong, but eventually the deciding factor of where to use AJAX was "Do I need to leave this page to associate this thing to something else? If yes, use AJAX." It worked out beautifully. The client is very happy with their new admin and is able to manage their website so much faster and it's certainly easier than before.

I wanted to use some of the cf ajax tags on the public side, but wasn't able to find a good spot that wouldn't cause a lot of confusion. We're still working with the client to keep updating the front end, but for now... I'm swamped with other projects at the moment (a ColdFusion 6 project, ick! ). CF8 has spoiled me good.

Aaron Lynch's Gravatar Well, I don't know if this counts as a case-study. But it definitely is a success story.

Dave Shuck and I recently rolled out a completely re-written InstantSpot.com and had initially selected Railo as the cfml processor. (Linux/Apache/Tomcat/Railo2 stack). This worked great for us in development and ran very nicely on the production server...until it started to get some traffic.

What followed was some very serious threading problems, which in turned turned our app into an error factory.

Long story short, we switched to ColdFusion 8 and it basically turned our sick application into a beautifully running virtually error free web app.

If you are curious about reading more on this issue, Dave wrote a blog post on it here : http://daveshuck.instantspot.com/blog/2008/01/28/F...

Thanks ColdFusion!

Benoit Hediard's Gravatar I also don't know if this could count as a case-study, but you might check out our blogs&community social platform : http://affinitiz.com

Affinitiz is a publishing platform that allows you to easily share all your contents on the web and on mobiles (text, pictures, video, audio, opinions, polls, events...), on public blogs or private communities.
It allows you to create your own social network (pretty similar to Ning).
Ex. : http://gulliver.affinitiz.com
http://shakespod.affinitiz.com
http://sorties-paris.affinitiz.com (in french)
http://fredtrip.affinitiz.com (in french)

It is powered by 100% Adobe solutions : Flex2 + ColdFusion8 + Flash Media Server2.
Since we have migrated from CF7 to CF8, we have noticed a decrease of 20% to 30% in CPU usage.
Our platform uses the integrated ColdFusion Flash/Flex gateway and it works like a charm (Flex is used for the content management app).

We also use ColdFusion to power the mobile version of the service :
http://affinitiz.mobi (with a version optimized for iPhone)

We are mainly on the french market with 340 000 users and 30 000 blogs and communities.
This year we plan to expand internationaly, so a little bit of visibility on Adobe.com might help!

If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact me.

Benoit Hediard
CFer User since CF4!

PS : this is a one man job (Flex, ColdFusion, FMS, SQL), so the platform represents several years of development... ;)
